Below is information on Middletown Recycling and Trash Pick Up.
Regular garbage collection schedule
- Monday - Fourth Ward
- Tuesday - Second Ward
- Wednesday - Third Ward
- Thursday - First Ward
- Friday - Mixed Recycling
- Saturday - Business Improvement District
Beginning April 29, 2011, Middletown is adopting Single Stream Recycling, meaning that residents can combine mixed paper and containers (glass, cans, plastics #1-7) in the same bin for pickup.
Acceptable recyclable materials include:
- plastic containers codes #1-7
- milk and juice cartons, juice boxes
- metal cans
- aluminum cans/empty aerosol cans
- glass bottles (clear, green and brown)
- frozen food containers, aluminum foil/foil pans
- brown/kraft grocery bags
- newspapers/magazines/catalogs
- notebook paper/computer, fax and copy paper
- telephone & paperback books, soft covered workbooks
- corrugated cardboard
- construction paper, white and colored ledger paper
- junk mail/coupons/envelopes
Unacceptable items include paper soiled with grease/paint, etc., Styrofoam, hangers, plastic bags, plastic toys, film plastics, tissues, napkins or paper towels.
Single Stream Recycling pickup will take place on the following Friday dates in 2013:

- December 6, 13, 20
NOTE: PLEASE SET OUT ALL RECYCLABLES ON THE EVENING BEFORE THE APPROPRIATE FRIDAY PICKUP. ALL RECYCLABLES MUST BE IN A BIN WITH THE LID ON PLEASE.
Middletown Recycling Drop-off Center - 76 Monhagen Avenue - Open Monday - Friday 7:30AM to 3:00PM. Will accept mixed recyclables, mixed paper and yard waste.
NOTE: Please place items in the appropriate containers. DO NOT bring household garbage.
Residential Trash Collection Program
There will be a charge for any bulk trash collected. Appointments can be made at the DPW office once the charge has been paid. Doors must be removed from appliances. Excludes: Car parts, tires, stones, dirt, construction debris, fuel oil, propane tanks, paint and hazardous materials.

There will be no garbage pick up on the City Holiday days listed below. Garbage will be picked up the following day. There will be no recycling pick up for the weeks that have any of the holidays below:

- Monday, February 11, 2013 - Lincoln’s Birthday
- Monday, February 18, 2013 – President’s Day
- Friday, March 29, 2013 – Good Friday

- Thursday, July 4, 2013 - Independence Day
- Monday, September 2, 2013 – Labor Day
- Monday, October 14, 2013 - Columbus Day
- Monday, November 11, 2013 – Veteran’s Day
- Thursday, November 28, 2013 - Thanksgiving Day
- Wednesday, December 25, 2013 - Christmas Day
- Wednesday, January 1, 2014 - New Year's Day
*City Recycling Center is open from 7:30 am – 3:00 pm during the regular business day.
GARBAGE PICKUP WILL BE ONE DAY LATE ON THE MONDAY AND THURSDAY HOLIDAYS.

REMINDER
City of Middletown Code requires that all disposables be placed in watertight receptacles as follows:
All materials to be collected should be placed in watertight metallic, plastic or rubberized receptacles having suitable handles and covers, except paper or other combustible material not easily placed in required receptacles. All material not placed in receptacles shall be securely tied and of a size not exceeding eighteen (18) inches in diameter and not over thirty-six (36) inches in length. Receptacles shall have a capacity of not less than ten (10) gallons or over twenty-two (22) gallons. Garbage shall be wrapped in paper before it is deposited in cans or other receptacles.
