Recreation & Parks


Recreation and Parks Department works year round to provide a wide range of safe and accessible recreational facilities and leisure time programs for participants of all ages. Whatever your interest may be, you can always find an activity or a special event to enhance your quality of life. Year round programs include: Basketball, Cheerleading, Community Center Programs, Fitness, Pre-School program,  Teen Programs, Tennis.

The City of Middletown has thirteen parks available that can accommodate baseball, basketball, bicycling, cooking, fishing, football, horse shows, outdoor concerts, ice skating, jogging, picnics, playground activities, soccer, swimming, tennis, walking or just relaxing with the family or friends.Reservations for park facilities can be made by calling our office at least thirty days in advance. Reservations for the picnic pavilions in Fancher-Davidge, Ben & Paula Amchir Park, & Maple Hill are accepted beginning in January to reserve for dates of May 15th through Oct 15th of each year. A small fee is required. Revocable Permits are also issued for other requested use of City park property. Our Professional Staff look forward to serving you.

Apply now for another exciting year of the Middletown Recreation Sports Camp located at the Monhagen Middle School, 555 County Route 78, Middletown, New York. Campers will be transported to additional facilities for swimming. The camp is for boys and girls ages 6 - 13, and all activities offered will be offered according to each camper's level of ability. Camp hours are 8:30am - 3:00pm, Monday through Friday, rain or shine. There is a Latchkey program for an additional fee which is run daily from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.

Little People Playtime is for 4, 5 & 6 year old boys and girls who want to enjoy sports, crafts, swimming, trips and other activities. Little People Playtime is located at the Michael G. Perkins Community Center at 47 Academy Avenue in Middletown. Hours are from 9:00am - 2:00pm Monday through Friday, rain or shine. Lunch is provided but children should bring a snack and drink.

This program is for 13, 14 & 15 year old boys and girls. Participants in the program will receive training in First Aid &CPR. The Counselor-in-Training Program will be held at the Michael G. Perkins Community Center, 47 Academy Avenue in Middletown. Hours of the program are 9:00am - 3:00pm Monday through Friday, rain or shine. Lunch is provided along with a staff shirt and valuable hands-on experience.

Cheerleading Camp is for girls 6 to 12 years-of-age who want to boost their confidence and have some fun too! The camp held at Maple Hill Park, Kawanis Shelter, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday, rain or shine! Campers should wear comfortable clothing, brink a lunch, snack and ample drink for warm days. Focus is on proper stretching & strengthening exercises, basic cheerleading moves and jumps.

Session #2: August 10, 2015 - August 14, 2015

Cheerleading Camp Fee: $65.00 per week

Dog Days of Summer - To Benefit the Middletown Humane Society

Located at the City of Middletown New Dog Park at Maple Hill Park on County Route 78 (Old Baseball Field Site) on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 12:00 Noon till 4:00PM.

Featuring at the Dog Park which is a City Sponsored Event:

  • City of Middletown will issue new Dog Licenses from Noon till 1:00PM Only - $11.00 or $23.00 Fee. You will need to bring proof of rabies and if the dog is spayed or neutered.
  • Rabies Shots for City of Middletown Dogs from Noon till 1:00PM Only - $15.00 Fee

Donations will be accepted to benefit the Humane Society.

Dog Park

The City of Middletown new Dog Park is located at Maple Hill Park supervised by the Recreation and Parks Department.  Please call 845-346-4180 with questions or concerns.

Hours of Operation:   8:00 a.m. to Dusk

(Hours of operation are subject to change at the discretion of the Superintendent of Recreation & Parks as deemed necessary)

    •  Park Users and Dog Owners assume all risks related to park use
    • The off-leash dog park does not permit children ten (10) years of age and under or dogs under four (4)    months old
    • Children from 11 years of age to 17 years of age must be under adult supervision at all times
    • Area A – Small dogs (30 lbs or less)
    • Area B – All dogs
    • Maximum of three (3) dogs per adult
    • Dogs must be spayed or neutered
    • Dogs must be licensed by the City of Middletown and up-to-date with vaccinations
    • A current license tag must be visible on each dog’s collar
    • Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the off-leash park area
    • Dogs are permitted to be off-leash in the designated fenced area only and the gates must remain closed
    • Owners/responsible parties must carry a leash and maintain control over their dogs at all times while in the park
    • Owners/responsible parties must clean up after their dogs and dispose of dog waste in an appropriate container
    • Dogs are prohibited from digging. Any holes created must be filled in by owner before leaving the park
    • No dog treats, human foods or drinks are permitted in the off-leash park
    • No animals other than dogs are permitted within the off-leash park area
    • Dog are not permitted on benches
    • Aggressive and/or threatening dogs are not permitted in the off-leash park unless muzzled and leashed at all times
    • Aggressive behavior, dog bites to person or dogs and/or other such incidents must be reported to the Recreation & Parks Department office at 845-346-4180 Monday-Friday during the hours of 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM or 343-3151 on evenings and weekends.
    • All other Recreation & Parks rules and regulations, as well as, all City of Middletown ordinances apply.

Pre-K Program



The program is for 3 & 4 year olds and emphasizes eye-hand coordination, socialization Kindergarten readiness. Classes are conducted on Mondays through Fridays at the Michael G. Perkins Community Center. The cost of the 2015-2016 Pre-School Program is $90.00 per month for 3 year olds for Middletown Residents; $100.00 per month for Non-Middletown Residents. The cost of the Pre-K Program for 4 year olds will be $120.00 per month for Middletown Residents; $130.00 per month for Non-Middletown Residents.

NEW TIMES AND DATES FOR THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR ARE: The 3 year old program will be three (3) days a week, Monday, Wednesday & Friday; 12:30pm - 3:00pm. The 4 year old program will be five (5) days a week, Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 11:30am.

The Department has 4 outdoor tennis courts which are located at Maple Hill Park. The courts are open seven (7) days a week from 8:00am - dusk, weather permitting.

Youth Tennis Clinics

Children's Tennis Clinics are offered beginning Monday, July 6, 2015 - August 14, 2015 on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9:30am - 11:30am. 

Youth Clinic Fees

        $40.00 registration fee for Middletown Resident
        $50.00 registration fee for non-Middletown Residents

Adult Clinic Fees

                                  $60.00 registration fee for Middletown Residents

                                  $70.00 registration fee for Non-Middletown Residents

Secondary accident insurance is included. Courts are CLOSED December — April.






Middletown is fortunate to have three (3) outdoor swimming pools for your enjoyment: Sproat Street Pool at Sproat Street Park, Maple Hill Pool at Maple Hill Park and War Veteran's Memorial Pool at Fancher-Davidge Park.  War Veteran's Memorial Pool was completely renovated and now has the main pool and a sprayground, which is for children 54 inches tall and under. All pools will be open on Monday, June 29, 2015 and are scheduled to close Sunday, August 30, 2015, depending on staffing. All pools are open to the public seven (7) days a week from 12:00pm — 6:00pm.

Fees are

$1.00 for children (16 and under)

$3.00 for adults.


"Free Swims" are offered at Sproat Street Pool and War Veteran's Memorial Pool on Tuesdays and Thursday from 9:00am to 11:00am starting on Tuesday,June 30, 2015. Free Swim at Maple Hill Pool will begin on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

Lessons are offered at Middletown High School Pool from Monday, July 6, 2015 to Tuesday, August 8, 2015. Commencing on July 6, 2015, the following classes are being offered on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays:

Teen Programs

The Middletown Teen Program is for Middletown Residents ONLY!  During the school year the Teen Center is open Monday through Thursday 6:00pm - 9:00pm; Friday & Saturday 8:00pm - 11:00pm. During the summer months the Teen Center is only open Monday & Wednesday 6:00pm - 9:00pm, and Friday & Saturday 8:00pm - 11:00pm. The Teen Center is free of charge for children 11 - 18 years of age. The Teen Center is a safe place for teens to socialize and be able to play pool, ping pong, video games, table games and exercise in our full size gym and the fitness room.

Funds provided by NYS Office of Children and Family Services through the Orange County Youth Bureau

Summer gym hours for teens will be:

Mondays & Wednesdays: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Fridays & Saturdays: 8:00pm - 11:00pm

Activities will include basketball, indoor soccer, double dutch and more! All participants must have the proper paperwork filed with the Middletown Teen Center Staff before admittance to the Gym Program. All participants MUST follow ALL Rules & Regulations or the will be excluded from the program. 

Middletown is looking for youth to get involved in their community. The City needs to hear your ideas and concerns for positive programming. Help make Middletown a better place for its youth and families by getting involved with various agencies that could use your new and fresh ideas. Meet people in City Government and let your voice be heard.

There will be special events, programs and trips for those students getting involved in being part of making Middletown a great place for youth.
