Recreation & Parks


Recreation and Parks Department works year round to provide a wide range of safe and accessible recreational facilities and leisure time programs for participants of all ages. Whatever your interest may be, you can always find an activity or a special event to enhance your quality of life. Year round programs include: Special Events, Basketball, Soccer, Cheerleading, Community Center Programs, Fitness, Pre-School program,  Teen Programs, Tennis.

The City of Middletown has thirteen parks available that can accommodate baseball, basketball, bicycling, cooking, fishing, football, horse shows, outdoor concerts, ice skating, jogging, picnics, playground activities, soccer, swimming, tennis, walking or just relaxing with the family or friends.Reservations for park facilities can be made by calling our office at least thirty days in advance. Reservations for the picnic pavilions in Fancher-Davidge, Ben & Paula Amchir Park, & Maple Hill are accepted beginning in January to reserve for dates of May 15th through Oct 15th of each year. A small fee is required. Revocable Permits are also issued for other requested use of City park property. Our Professional Staff look forward to serving you.

2016 Tennis Clinics - Spring & Summer

To Enroll for Spring and/or Summer Tennis Clinics you MUST REGISTER with the Middletown Recreation & Parks Department office located at 47 Academy Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940 either in person or via mail.  You will NOT be permitted to do so at the Tennis Courts.  For more information see attached registration form or call the Recreation Office at 346-4180. 


Dog Park

The City of Middletown new Dog Park is located at Maple Hill Park supervised by the Recreation and Parks Department.  Please call 845-346-4180 with questions or concerns.

dogPark 01Hours of Operation:   8:00 a.m. to Dusk

(Hours of operation are subject to change at the discretion of the Superintendent of Recreation & Parks as deemed necessary)

    •  Park Users and Dog Owners assume all risks related to park use
    • The off-leash dog park does not permit children ten (10) years of age and under or dogs under four (4)    months old
    • Children from 11 years of age to 17 years of age must be under adult supervision at all times
    • Area A – Small dogs (30 lbs or less)
    • Area B – All dogs
    • Maximum of three (3) dogs per adult
    • Dogs must be spayed or neutered
    • Dogs must be licensed by the City of Middletown and up-to-date with vaccinations
    • A current license tag must be visible on each dog’s collar
    • Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the off-leash park area
    • Dogs are permitted to be off-leash in the designated fenced area only and the gates must remain closed
    • Owners/responsible parties must carry a leash and maintain control over their dogs at all times while in the park
    • Owners/responsible parties must clean up after their dogs and dispose of dog waste in an
      appropriate container
    • Dogs are prohibited from digging. Any holes created must be filled in by owner before leaving the park
    • No dog treats, human foods or drinks are permitted in the off-leash park
    • No animals other than dogs are permitted within the off-leash park area
    • Dog are not permitted on benches
    • Aggressive and/or threatening dogs are not permitted in the off-leash park unless muzzled and leashed at all times
    • Aggressive behavior, dog bites to person or dogs and/or other such incidents must be reported to the Recreation & Parks Department office at 845-346-4180 Monday-Friday during the hours of 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM or 343-3151 on evenings and weekends.
    • All other Recreation & Parks rules and regulations, as well as, all City of Middletown ordinances apply.

3 & 4 Year Old Pre-School Program

Registrations for child to be enrolled in September of 2016 are being accepted. The prgram is for 3 and 4 year olds and emphasizes eye-hand coordination, socialization, and kindergarten readiness. 

Classes are conducted Monday through Friday at the  Michael G. Perkins Community center. We offer either  a Morning Session from 8:30am to 11:30am and an Afternoon Session from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. 

The cost us $120 per month for Middletown Residents and $140 per month for Non-Middleotwn Residents. Monthly tuition is expected to be paid on time to avoid a late fee.

Middletown is fortunate to have three (3) outdoor swimming pools for your enjoyment: Sproat Street Pool at Sproat Street Park, Maple Hill Pool at Maple Hill Park and War Veteran's Memorial Pool at Fancher-Davidge Park.  War Veteran's Memorial Pool was completely renovated and now has the main pool and a sprayground, which is for children 54 inches tall and under. All pools will be open on Monday, June 27, 2016 and are scheduled to close Sunday, August 28, 2016, depending on staffing. All pools are open to the public seven (7) days a week from 12:00pm — 6:00pm.

Fees are

$1.00 for children (16 and under)

$3.00 for adults.


"Free Swims" are offered at all three pools. Sproat Street Pool and War Veteran's Memorial Pool free swim is on Tuesdays and Thursday from 9:00am to 11:00am starting on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Free Swim at Maple Hill Pool will begin on Tuesday, August 2, 2016.

Lessons are offered at Fancher Davidge Park's War Veteran's Memorial Pool beginning on Wednesday, July 6th, 2016 through Friday, August 5, 2016. Commencing on July 6, 2016, the following classes are being offered on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays:

BEGINNERS (primary skills)
SESSION ONE 6:00pm-6:45pm
SESSION TWO 7:00pm-7:45pm

INTERMEDIATES (stroke development)
SESSION THREE 6:00pm-6:45pm

SWIMMERS (skill proficiency)
SESSIONS FOUR 7:00pm-7:45pm

$40.00 registration fee for Middletown residents
$60.00 registration fee for non-Middletown residents

Teen Programs

The Middletown Teen Program is for Middletown Residents ONLY! 


Septetmber through School Ending:
Monday through Thursdays: 6:00pm -9:00pm
Fridays & Saturdays: 8:00pm - 11:00pm

Summer gym hours for teens will be:
Tuesdays & Thursdays: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Fridays & Saturdays: 8:00pm - 11:00pm

Activities will include basketball, indoor soccer, double dutch and more! All participants must have the proper paperwork filed with the Middletown Teen Center Staff before admittance to the Gym Program. All participants MUST follow ALL Rules & Regulations or the will be excluded from the program.

The Teen Center is free of charge for children 11 - 18 years of age. The Teen Center is a safe place for teens to socialize and be able to play pool, ping pong, video games, table games and exercise in our full size gym and the fitness room.

The ultimate goal and purpose of the Mayor's Youth Council is to propose and implement idea and activities, for the enrichment of Middletown's Youth and overall community.

In the Mayor's Youth Council we offer:
