Freedom of Information Law (FOIL)
Thank you for visiting our Freedom of Information webpage. We encourage you to explore the resources available and exercise your right to know. Together, let's build a more transparent and empowered society.
In the City of Middletown, we firmly believe in the principles of transparency, accountability, and open governance. We understand the importance of providing access to information and empowering individuals to exercise their right to know. We are committed to fostering a culture of openness, where information is readily accessible to the public. By providing you with the means to access information, we aim to promote trust, foster informed decision-making, and encourage public participation.
This webpage is dedicated to promoting and facilitating the Freedom of Information (FOI) process, ensuring that you have the tools and resources to obtain the information you seek. Here, you will find comprehensive information about your rights under the Freedom of Information Act, as well as detailed guidance on how to submit a request for information. We are committed to making the process as straightforward and efficient as possible, enabling you to navigate the complexities of the FOI system with ease.
Since March of 2023, we have streamlined our Freedom of Information request process by implementing an online portal for all requests. This portal will provide you with a fast and easy way to submit your request and receive your requested documents. Best of all, there is no charge to receive your documents electronically.
The New York State Freedom of Information Law allows a municipality up to 5 days to respond to a request for records. The charge for physical copies of records will be $0.25 cents per page.
You have the right to appeal a denial of the request by sending your denied request within 30 days to the:
Office of the Mayor
16 James Street
Middletown, NY 10940
